Here Are the States That Allow People to Possess a Quarter Pound of Weed

California: You can actually possess over a QP of weed in California if you are a medical marijuana patient and have any of the following health conditions: anorexia, arthritis, cachexia, cancer, chronic pain, HIV or AIDS, Glaucoma, Migraines, Persistent Muscle Spasms, Severe Nausea, Seizures, Any debilitating illness where the medical use of marijuana has been “deemed appropriate and has been recommended by a physician.” In fact, there are no possession limits specified. The amount must be “consistent with the patient’s needs.”

Ohio: PAY ATTENTION HERE. The patient limits are not yet specified, so you can make a case for having a quarter pound of cannabis product within your possession. Here’s why: People treat this as “no possession limit.” But remember: Patients can only non-smokable forms of cannabis are legal, so that means tried-and-true blazable buds are out of the equation.

Alaska: Anyone can contain up to 4 ounces, or a QP, of weed— BUT ONLY IN THEIR HOME. So, if you’re caught with a quarter pound of weed in your car or backpack, you are screwed.

Delaware: You can possess up to 6 ounces of medical marijuana in Delaware if you are a mmj patient and have one of the following conditions: Alzheimer’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Anxiety, Cachexia, Cancer, Chronic pain (that has not responded to previously prescribed medication or surgical measures for more than three months), Cirrhosis, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, Intractable epilepsy, Migraines, Nausea, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Seizures, Severe and persistent muscle spasms (including those characteristic of multiple sclerosis), and any other debilitating condition, if the use is authorized by a physician and if “current standard care practices and treatments have been exhausted, and there are grounds to support that the patient may benefit from this treatment.”

Massachusetts: For MMJ patients you can have up to 10 ounces every two months. You are protected under this law if you are a registered mmj patient and have one of the following conditions: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Cancer, Crohn’s disease, Glaucoma, HIV or AIDS, Hepatitis C, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Other conditions as determined in writing by a qualifying patient’s physician.

Alzheimer’s disease, Cachexia, Cancer, Chronic pain, Glaucoma, HIV or AIDS, Nausea, Persistent muscle spasms, Post-traumatic stress, Seizures, Other conditions are subject to approval.

New Mexico: MMJ patients can possess 8 ounces of medical cannabis on them at once. These are the qualifying conditions: Alzheimer’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Anorexia/cachexia, Autism spectrum disorder, Cancer, Cervical dystonia, Crohn’s disease, Epilepsy and other seizure disorders, Friedreich’s ataxia, Glaucoma, Hepatitis C infection, HIV/AIDS, Hospice patients, Huntington’s disease, Inflammatory autoimmune-mediated arthritis, Intractable nausea/vomiting, Lewy body disease, Multiple sclerosis, Obstructive sleep apnea, Opioid dependency or other substance abuse disorders, Painful peripheral neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Severe chronic pain, Spasmodic torticollis, Spinal cord damage, Spinal muscular atrophy, and Ulcerative colitis

Oklahoma: O.K. is known for having the most lax medical cannabis laws out of any state—even California. It’s easier and less expensive for people to get business licenses, and there are no qualifying conditions. Rather, the decision to recommend cannabis therapy is up to the discretion of the treating physician. That means if your doctor thinks MMJ can help you (say, for a broken toe) and they write you a recommendation, you can procure legal weed. Those possessing a state-issued license may possess the following: up to eight ounces of marijuana in their residence; up to one ounce of concentrated marijuana; up to 72 ounces of edible marijuana; up to six mature marijuana plants; up to six seedling plants; and up to three ounces of marijuana on them at one time.

Washington State: Those entered in the state’s voluntary MMJ patient database may possess: 48 ounces of marijuana-infused product in solid form; 3 ounces of useable marijuana; 216 ounces of marijuana-infused product in liquid form; or 21 grams of marijuana concentrates. That’s a shitload of extracts! These are the qualifying conditions: Cachexia, Cancer, Crohn’s disease, Glaucoma, Hepatitis C, HIV or AIDS, Intractable pain, Persistent muscle spasms and/or spasticity, Nausea, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Seizures, Traumatic Brain Injury, Any “terminal or debilitating condition”

Florida: Medical marijuana is legal in Florida. Only physicians can give people the clearance to have a quarter pound, or 4 oz., of cannabis on them.

Missouri: You can possess and purchase up to 4oz, or a QP, of weed every 30 days! But, only if you are an MMJ patient with one of the qualifying conditions. You can find them at the NORML link below.
